Hello.
I’m a backwater blogger. A punter in the murky, mosquito ridden swamp of the blog o’sphere. I say this as a preface, not an apology, for about what I am about to say.
I hate Bono.
That statement alone could get me lynched, spammed, hacked, mangled and my poor blog left for dead on the side of the information super highway.
I have my reasons. They are legion. But let’s just focus on the latest action that has brought me to a state of foaming and teeth gnashing that defies all bounds of reason.
Since when do we, the American people, need an Irish rock-star to tell us how to vote or what to vote for in the upcoming elections? A neo-conservative rock-star at that. For all of you that think Bono is a liberal, you are sadly mistaken. Liberals don’t kiss the perky derrieres of relentless world leaders and cozy up to the likes of Jesse Helms. We hate Jesse Helms, dementia or no dementia, the man is a menace. We don’t support Bush’s abstinence policy in Africa. Bono does, he has said so repeatedly in the media, not the least of which was an interview last year on 60 minutes. In the same interview he bashed ‘bleeding heart liberals’. Like most neo cons he uses God as the excuse for his actions, repeatedly. So, I don’t see him as a liberal. I see him as a slippery copy of the men who are destroying our civil liberties.
And for Bono to tell me or any American what we should focus on during our elections is revolting. The man is a partner of a billion dollar private equity company, he is avoiding paying Irish income taxes, he owns a clothing company located in Lesotho ensuring low operating costs and touts it as an ethical company. There is no such thing as an ethical company. Companies exist to make profit, not love.
But its the mindless influence he exerts that baffles me. No one is willing to call a spade a spade. Because if they do, well, the hordes overrun them and start the name calling as though we just don’t understand. Oh, I understand. I understand all too well. Given his business practices, how does a man like Bono have the bollocks to criticize the G8? And why does the worldwide media lap it up? Anyone who criticizes Bono faces media retribution, so much so that articles that decry the little man end up vanished off the net.
I am of the opinion that the West should help Africa, but not make long term plans to rule Africa. The Marshall Plan, that is the basis of Bono’s crusade, is a plan that doesn’t just rebuild, it lays the ground work for far reaching economic plans that would tie Africa’s economy permanently to the West. It’s also the same type of plan that Bush is trying and failing to implement in Iraq.
I could go on and on. But let it be said, I hate Bono. I hate the bogus Red Program. I hate the useless One Campaign and DATA. And I really hate that he somehow thinks he has the right to meddle in AMERICAN politics after the sham of the Irish election that re-elected Bertie, what kickbacks?, Ahern. Better he should concentrate on redesigning the skyline of the capital city of his own country and let us, the American people, decide what we would like to focus on this coming election year.
Personally, I think it should be the War in Iraq, where American soldiers and Iraqi citizens are dying for American business interests, of which Bono has more than a few.
There, I said it out loud. Now, let the spamming begin.

Let me be the first to say thank you for saying some of the same things I’ve been thinking over the years! I agree that any wealthy foreign interest meddling in American politics should be examined carefully, be it a corporation or a rock star. But just as we wouldn’t let say, the Princes of England, who are sexy, wealthy celebrities (NOT rulers or policy-makers) dictate what our elections are about, we shouldn’t let Bono do it either. If he were an American citizen, I’d have a different opinion, but our elections should be just that-ours.

Ha. Saying that you hate Bono could only gain you adoring fans. He’s an absolute toss machine.

Swearing Lady,
In darker moments I personally refer to him as “that maligant little imp”

Actually, Rush has a song about him on their new album (“Malignant Narcissism”)

Snicker. Ah Rush, always apt, they are. Thanks for the heads up Frankie.
