In The Time Of The King Of America

Hello. Yeah it’s me. Been Awhile.

Sooo. I haven’t been blogging much. The reason is because I just have no idea what the hell is going on.

When Bush was in office he did stupid things all the time. He made such glaring random errors they were easy to spot, even if it was just his language. George Bush left a  legacy that included a rapidly tanking housing market, destruction of civil liberties, two unmanaged wars, Tarp and a huge,( really, really huge, practically ginormous), deficit . And an unending list of quotes that make people laugh every time they read them.

My confusion comes from the fact that everyone seems to have forgotten the previous eight years. Memory has been rewritten and it turns out everything that happened during the Bush administration and all the ensuing results of very bad policies are now Barack Obama’s fault.

It’s beyond ridiculous.

The Republicans have done a fantastic job of re-writing the past to make people believe that George Bush and his crap Administration never existed.

And if you say anything about how most of this mess can be laid directly at the Bush Administration’s feet, Republicans will rend you like pack of  slavering wolves. Greedy, overfed wolves.

But, folks, it did exist. The Bush Administration really did encourage the breaking of the rules of the Geneva Convention. Bush authorized rendition and created Homeland Security so your library books could be used against you in a court of law. He listened to your phone calls, peeked into your house when you were away and snatched people out of their houses using cleverly worded bits of paper. All without anyone’s approval or a court order.

He removed restrictions from the oil industry causing speculators to push gas up to over $4 a gallon. He told banks they could resume their activities from the ’80’s and helped create the housing “snafu”  Because of these policies, all through 2008 people began to lose their jobs and banks went under. Not banks like “Ye Olde Bank of Hillbillyville”. No, big banks. Established and important banks. And with it the stock market tanked.

All this happened, lest we forget, during the time of the King of America. George Bush and the Republicans looted America for eight years.

Now, in the here and now, this is what Republicans are trying to stop Obama from doing:

Creating National health care so everyone can have some measure of guaranteed health.

Creating new jobs

Holding Bankers accountable and forcing them to pay fines not receive bonuses for their illicit activities.

Closing Guantanamo while simultaneously blaming him for not closing it.

Using taxpayer money for something besides lining the pockets of greedy, corrupt politicians and talk show hosts.

oh the list goes on.  And on and on and on.

The worst part is that so many Americans are allowing themselves to be led by the nose by the very same people who put us here in the first place.

Somehow everyone expected all of our problems to go away in 2009. Because when I think ‘President Obama” I think “Magician” As though one man could magically make a world-wide credit crisis disappear. “Poof”

Sorry, that’s not how it works. And those politicians and talk show hosts who should be beating their breasts, rending their clothes and screaming Mea Culpa in the streets are standing firmly in the way of any progress whatsoever. And The American People are standing firmly with them helping create this roadblock. How did we the people get so completely stupid? Is there something in the water?

So I am a little confused.  Why on earth, when it took an entire Congress, Senate and Executive branch eight years to destroy the American economy, are we now blaming one man who has been in office one year?

I don’t get it.

The Times, Are They A’ Really Changin’?

Hello.

Now that classes have started I don’t have a leisurely 60 minutes to write a post. Often, I am trying to get it in under 40 minutes. So it really has to be something that completely chaps my ass to motivate me to write. Today’s topic is the word “racist”.

As you my fine reader know, I am bogged in world of English. Though I may spell like crap, I still believe we as a Nation can rise above our situations and learn to use language properly.

Racist, racism.Interesting word. It implies, when you sling it at people, that the person you are referring to has a problem with the cultural origins of you the speaker.

The Dictionary definition: a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

I would like to state that at this time in history, though there have been many studies attempting to prove superiority, no particular race has come out on top. This means that no skin color or culture has won the race for best in show. Which prompts me to believe that we are all essentially the same, i.e. equal.

Republicans are sending e-mails of a highly racist nature about our President. When they get caught, they try to deny what a thinking person can clearly see. They are idiots. They are the gun-toting, beer swilling, redneck cousins of rational thinking. Oh, I am sorry, was that racist? No, because I am a white girl and I can say whatever I want about these crackers. Right?

According to Republicans Barak Obama is : racist, communist, fascist, socialist, and centrist. Christ, how does the man get through his day without collapsing under the weight of all these different ideologies? Especially considering that the last one is the only one that might be correct.

Ask yourself this, When was the last time a sitting President was called a racist by the media or sitting Senators? Never. And why is that? Yeah, exactly.

Republicans having had their time in the Big Chair are mad that their rule has ended. And like tired, whiny children the best they can do is throw a giant fit and say mean things. And perpetuate bogus rumors that hamper actual progress. Calling the PRESIDENT a liar in open session is just too much. He is not a liar. Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh  Bill O’Reilly and Republicans of their ilk, are liars. They treat the truth like a chessboard. They just move it wherever they think it will give them the most advantage. And that includes leveling charges of racism against Obama. Because it will get them more crazy Birther devotees, not because it’s true.

I am sick of hearing that word bandied about as though it were proof of something. It’s only proof that those who are using it have nothing else to sling. Barak Obama, unlike the e-mail sending Republicans, hasn’t done one thing I would consider racist. He hasn’t leveled charges of racism against anyone, he hasn’t sent revolting whitey hating e-mails, nothing.

He is trying to get health care for every American. He is making all students responsible for their education. He is trying desparately to undo the complete FUBAR mess he was left.

Do I like everything our President is doing? No, not really. I, as a SOCIALIST DEMOCRAT (that right, socialist, socialist, I said it out loud, nahnahnahnahnah), don’t agree with all of his policies. But I agree less with those who are using the thin cover of  the word ‘racist’ to cover up the reality of what they are doing. And what they are doing is trying to halt progress. By doing so, they can point at the President and say its all his fault. It’s is in fact Republicans who won’t come to the table. Republicans who are pushing a hate filled agenda. Republicans who are stalling this country and pointing fingers at everyone but themselves. It’s their only response when they can’t get what they want.

In the immortal words of Bob Dylan ” Get out of the new one if you can’t lend a hand”

Bend Over, Beck, UPS Has A Delivery For You

Hello.

I just can’t help it. I am jumping  into the pool.

Glenn Beck.

UPS has pulled their advertising ‘temporarily. And rightly so.

Beck is another one who speaks out his ass while trying desperately trying to make sense. In one of his videos he  says something like “President Obama said he was going to change America and..he did” Like it was like a bad thing. Wouldn’t that make Obama the first President in many years who tried to do exactly what he said he was going to do? How is that a bad thing ? What does it say that about American politics when commentators like Beck are surprised when a political figure does exactly what he says he’s going to do. I am guessing they thought that it was going to be business as usual up on capital hill and are now freaking out.

Among all of his other false allegations, Beck takes exception to Obama’s community service program for high school students. Why?

Community service has more gains associated with it than losses. Students should be encouraged to work within their own communities. Oh, it’s a communist thing. Okay Glenn, just because it has the word community in it doesn’t mean it’s communist.

What I think the Republicans are objecting to, and I lump ‘social commentators’ like Glenn Beck together here, has little or nothing to do with actual Presidential policies. It has to do with the power being taken from them because they could not stop them selves from raping and pillaging America while they were in power. Now along comes a man who is trying to straighten out the mess and bam “He’s racist” “He hates white people.” “He’s gonna put your kids in concentration camps and force them to help people” “He’s got Death Panels ”  Unlike Bush who just chucked people into prison and ignored any wrongdoing by the overseers. Bush, a man who encouraged water-boarding and other forms of torture because “it was good for America”. Do we really want that sort of thinking back in power?

At the end of his presidency Bush’s approval rating was 26 percent. That means that 74 percent of the people in this country did NOT approve of his policies. One has to assume that some of those people were Republicans who helped draft those policies. In fact, do I not remember Republicans fleeing from George as though he were carrying a social disease? Was he not asked by Republican leaders to not attend their Convention because it might cast a negative light on Mc Cain’s campaign?

But it’s Obama who’s the bad guy. He’s the one whose going to kill your parents and force your kids to do something besides play video games.

Glenn Beck and others like him are attempting to capitalize on fear. They like it when people fearfully agree with them because it gives them a small measure of power. But as dictators around the world have discovered, rule by fear has a short shelf  life. At some point people refuse to be spoon fed garbage. UPS boycotting, not only Beck’s show, but the FOX network, is a signal that the time has come to stop wrangling over foolish claims and start doing something that might be productive.

To add your voice and ask that UPS make the boycott permanent send an email to customer.service@UPS.com.

Today Beck, tomorrow O’Reilly? One can only hope.

It’s Like A Virus

Hello.

I am thinking  that This might be why Republicans should not be allowed to speak.

Ever.

Really ‘Pubs? Government should stay out of Medicare? Well, I think you should stay out of politics if you can’t figure out why that statement is asinine.

Anyone But That Guy

Hello.

So I noticed something about the blog as I was reading through the archives. I seem to have done a one eighty on Obama. Puzzled, I decided to take it up with my  unconscious self.

“Self” I said hesitantly “What’s up with that ?”

Self replies with irritation, face immersed in a coffee cup, ” Wha-?”

“That” I repeat pointing at an old post that invites Obama into the Hiawatha Forest to play hide and seek at midnight.

“What are you on about?” Self growls, plucking its face from the coffee cup. Clearly, it hasn’t been paying any amount of attention. Now that’s just annoying. You’d think that ones unconscious self would pay some sort of attention to what is going on in the outside world. Even if it is just so it can clobber you with it during REM sleep.

“This turn about on Obama? “I say pointing to recent blog posts “What gives? I thought we hated him?”

“Hate is an elusive theory.” Self replies, reaching for it’s cigarettes. I don”t smoke but apparently, Self does.

“Have you been reading Camus again?”

“Define Camus.” Self sneers through a rising cloud of smoke. I cough.

“Very funny. Seriously, what is up with this Obama thing. We really need to have a unified position. People will get confused. They’ll say I’m a waffler. And nothing is worse than being lumped in with John McCain.”

“That is more horrifying that either us needs to contemplate at this point in our relationship.”

Sigh. Obviously Self will not be giving straight answers today. Self never gives straight answers. Which is why my life is what it is. It’s like being trapped in a body with an aging, black beret wearing, macrobiotic eating, hippie. Quite horrible really. Especially when I consider how much I’ve always secretly wanted to be a a pro-life Republican. Self refuses on moral grounds. And occasionally too many coffee grounds.

I try one more time.

“Self” I yell ” I need a plausible explanation I can take to the people. Now!” I augment my position with a stern finger pointing.

Self regards me with that smug beatnik look I have always hated, yawns and says “Well, he’s not Bush.”

So now I know. I am, like many Social Democrats, willing to take anyone as the President as long as their last name doesn’t rhyme with mush, push, or shush. And their Vice President doesn’t rhyme with Heaney.

Sad really, I thought my reasoning my would be deeper and more complex, but alas, no.

Hey You, Out There On Your Own…

Hello.

If you go to a town hall meeting to shout and scream, listen up.

Your rights are not being violated when you are called out on your behaviour. In point of fact, when your unruly actions shut down an otherwise calm discussion, you are violating the rights of those around you. You, Mr. Town Hall Screaming and Spitting Guy, are essentially in the wrong.

The Town Hall meetings are supposed to be informational. And Senators are not required to have them. They are a courtesy to constituents. Something we saw none of during King Bush’s Reign of Ignorance. That we are, as taxpayers, being offered the chance to hear facts about the proposed bill and decide for ourselves how we feel about it is actually kind of nice.

Not being able to engage in a discussion because some random is pushing an agenda, not so nice.

Are the disruptions being organized and funded by third parties? It wouldn’t surprise me one bit. It’s the oldest tactic in the book(cough TammanyHallcough). Disinformation through disruption is a very old and effective political trick. But that’s all it is , a trick.

The use of these disruptive practices; false information, misleading statements of fact, is killing the necessary overhaul of the American health care system. Palin’s ridiculous and damning assertion that the proposed bill would put her Downs baby to death is nearing the criminal. Particularly since she probably has the means to afford proper life long care for her child. What if she didn’t ? What if she was working a minimum wage job and trying to pay for medical care out of pocket because her employer was getting around the health care benefit requirement by only giving her 38 hours a week instead of forty? Or she was denied access to necessary care because the child was born with a pre-existing condition? I’ll bet she would be singing a whole other tune.

These are the people who are being hurt by the current system. The ones who need the reform.

Not Palin. Not Republican middle class screamers. Not insurance companies.

Let’s face it, the health care industry makes an assload of  profit. It’s only right that they would throw a temper tantrum when someone tries to rein them in a little. That doesn’t mean they are in the right. It doesn’t mean they are free to disrupt and derail the democratic process.

Whether or not we agree with the proposed bill, people at least have the right to hear about it.

No one has the right to shout insults or scream until they silence the understandable curiosity of another person.

No one has the right to bring guns to what should be a rational disscussion, regardless of their right to carry concealed. This is an implied threat.

And  why aren’t those who are using Twitter  to issue these threats of retaliation and violence at Town Hall meetings (and they are legion) being arrested?

Dogwoman

DUH.

Hello.

If  you are planning to bring a gun or encourage others to bring guns to the next town hall meeting, don’t tweet about it you daffy moron.
