Jaysus, Shut It Already

Hello.

I have ten minutes to write this morning.

Bono is back in the news whining yet again about illegal downloads. If I was reading his dreck correctly, he thinks that the Music Industry should become like China and restrict music access. Yes Bono, we should. No one should be allowed to download your crap music without a permit certifying that they should be certified.

Has it occurred to anyone in the music industry that it might not be illegal downloads but poor quality of music that is killing their industry? Maybe if they produced musicians rather than faces with digital enhancement people might buy their product. I think they should blame themselves. Not everyone likes Rap or Rythm and Blues. Or people who steal bits of old music and mess with it a bit and call it ‘new’. It’s not new. It’s theft.

Bono complaining about music theft is foolish. Especially if one listens to Televisions’ Marquee Moon and then compares it to U2’s first album Boy. They are strangely similar. Explain that one Bono.

Nevermind, do us all a favor. Just shut it, please.

I did say please.

Bend Over, Beck, UPS Has A Delivery For You

Hello.

I just can’t help it. I am jumping  into the pool.

Glenn Beck.

UPS has pulled their advertising ‘temporarily. And rightly so.

Beck is another one who speaks out his ass while trying desperately trying to make sense. In one of his videos he  says something like “President Obama said he was going to change America and..he did” Like it was like a bad thing. Wouldn’t that make Obama the first President in many years who tried to do exactly what he said he was going to do? How is that a bad thing ? What does it say that about American politics when commentators like Beck are surprised when a political figure does exactly what he says he’s going to do. I am guessing they thought that it was going to be business as usual up on capital hill and are now freaking out.

Among all of his other false allegations, Beck takes exception to Obama’s community service program for high school students. Why?

Community service has more gains associated with it than losses. Students should be encouraged to work within their own communities. Oh, it’s a communist thing. Okay Glenn, just because it has the word community in it doesn’t mean it’s communist.

What I think the Republicans are objecting to, and I lump ‘social commentators’ like Glenn Beck together here, has little or nothing to do with actual Presidential policies. It has to do with the power being taken from them because they could not stop them selves from raping and pillaging America while they were in power. Now along comes a man who is trying to straighten out the mess and bam “He’s racist” “He hates white people.” “He’s gonna put your kids in concentration camps and force them to help people” “He’s got Death Panels ”  Unlike Bush who just chucked people into prison and ignored any wrongdoing by the overseers. Bush, a man who encouraged water-boarding and other forms of torture because “it was good for America”. Do we really want that sort of thinking back in power?

At the end of his presidency Bush’s approval rating was 26 percent. That means that 74 percent of the people in this country did NOT approve of his policies. One has to assume that some of those people were Republicans who helped draft those policies. In fact, do I not remember Republicans fleeing from George as though he were carrying a social disease? Was he not asked by Republican leaders to not attend their Convention because it might cast a negative light on Mc Cain’s campaign?

But it’s Obama who’s the bad guy. He’s the one whose going to kill your parents and force your kids to do something besides play video games.

Glenn Beck and others like him are attempting to capitalize on fear. They like it when people fearfully agree with them because it gives them a small measure of power. But as dictators around the world have discovered, rule by fear has a short shelf  life. At some point people refuse to be spoon fed garbage. UPS boycotting, not only Beck’s show, but the FOX network, is a signal that the time has come to stop wrangling over foolish claims and start doing something that might be productive.

To add your voice and ask that UPS make the boycott permanent send an email to customer.service@UPS.com.

Today Beck, tomorrow O’Reilly? One can only hope.

It’s Like A Virus

Hello.

I am thinking  that This might be why Republicans should not be allowed to speak.

Ever.

Really ‘Pubs? Government should stay out of Medicare? Well, I think you should stay out of politics if you can’t figure out why that statement is asinine.

Hey You, Out There On Your Own…

Hello.

If you go to a town hall meeting to shout and scream, listen up.

Your rights are not being violated when you are called out on your behaviour. In point of fact, when your unruly actions shut down an otherwise calm discussion, you are violating the rights of those around you. You, Mr. Town Hall Screaming and Spitting Guy, are essentially in the wrong.

The Town Hall meetings are supposed to be informational. And Senators are not required to have them. They are a courtesy to constituents. Something we saw none of during King Bush’s Reign of Ignorance. That we are, as taxpayers, being offered the chance to hear facts about the proposed bill and decide for ourselves how we feel about it is actually kind of nice.

Not being able to engage in a discussion because some random is pushing an agenda, not so nice.

Are the disruptions being organized and funded by third parties? It wouldn’t surprise me one bit. It’s the oldest tactic in the book(cough TammanyHallcough). Disinformation through disruption is a very old and effective political trick. But that’s all it is , a trick.

The use of these disruptive practices; false information, misleading statements of fact, is killing the necessary overhaul of the American health care system. Palin’s ridiculous and damning assertion that the proposed bill would put her Downs baby to death is nearing the criminal. Particularly since she probably has the means to afford proper life long care for her child. What if she didn’t ? What if she was working a minimum wage job and trying to pay for medical care out of pocket because her employer was getting around the health care benefit requirement by only giving her 38 hours a week instead of forty? Or she was denied access to necessary care because the child was born with a pre-existing condition? I’ll bet she would be singing a whole other tune.

These are the people who are being hurt by the current system. The ones who need the reform.

Not Palin. Not Republican middle class screamers. Not insurance companies.

Let’s face it, the health care industry makes an assload of  profit. It’s only right that they would throw a temper tantrum when someone tries to rein them in a little. That doesn’t mean they are in the right. It doesn’t mean they are free to disrupt and derail the democratic process.

Whether or not we agree with the proposed bill, people at least have the right to hear about it.

No one has the right to shout insults or scream until they silence the understandable curiosity of another person.

No one has the right to bring guns to what should be a rational disscussion, regardless of their right to carry concealed. This is an implied threat.

And  why aren’t those who are using Twitter  to issue these threats of retaliation and violence at Town Hall meetings (and they are legion) being arrested?

Careful There, You Almost Stepped In It

Hello.

Dearest Rush Limbaugh,

When you were a child, did you know that one day you would grow up to be  a heinous individual whose verbal incontinence caused people to want to ram steak knives into their ear canals? Did you?

I was only asking because comparing our President to the entire Nazi regime and encouraging hillbilly followers to disrupt town hall meetings and/or physically abuse complete strangers seems like a unusual life goal.  I understand the need to have a goal. I have goals. I have a great dream where it is illegal to spread slander. Oh wait, (headslap) that’s not a dream.

You, my fat bellied friend, are skating really close to the edge of a dangerous pond.  While one may in fact poke fun at the President of the United States, and I for one, really miss having the ammunition to do so, one cannot imply that one knows for certain that he is a Nazi, without actual proof.  You are probably wondering how you did that. It comes from stating, however vaguely, that the swastika is used in any manner by  the United States government or in this case, President Obama. The use of said emblem in any way would by association imply that our President is indeed a Nazi. And then the big bad Government agencies that you would like to see let loose on common citizens would actually be after…you. For slander of a public figure. Which you have barely escaped doing in your little tirade yesterday.

The most fun part of this is that the swastika is only being used  by your fellow right wingers on their protest signs. They are carrying the emblem. And waving it about. And shouting threatening slogans at innocent bystanders. So, by your own wise definition system, are they not in fact advertising themselves to be…….I’ll let you figure that one out.

Have a great, big, giant, red white and blue day! And see if you can’t work on getting some kind of internal editor before you end up back in the slammer.

What The **** Are You People Talking About?

Hello.

It’s interesting to me, everything I am reading on the Net about our newest President. What I find most intriguing is that the Republicans have set up shop and are now engaging in the “Whine and Blame ” game.

They are attempting, through a great deal of propaganda, to insinuate that the current economy was brought on by policies that are less than 8 months old. Apparently, the bail-out strategy they started when Bush was in office , the one they voted for so quickly, well, it’s now a bad idea that will ruin America. Also, from Republican bloggers and journalists, and this is what I find most interesting, it’s the fault of loser deadbeat homeowners that they are now underwater and foreclosures are rising. It is no longer the fault of unscrupulous bankers  who bought millions of dollars in bad debt, encouraged low-income families to take on high debt, and then hid the entire thing through off-the-books accounting.

If it weren’t so widespread I would just cry “sour grapes ‘ and leave it. Yet, it is main stream media who is buying into this smokescreen and selling it quite well.

Did you know:

*Republicans are trashing Obama over Guantanamo. They are the ones who held prisoners for over eight years without trial, were the center of the abuse debate, and basically ran the place like a Turkish prison without all the amenities. However, it’s Obama’s fault now.

No, it’s Bush and Cheney’s fault. They set the policies.

*That after eight years of complete bullying of  the EU, it’s now Obama’s fault that relations are not perfect. It takes more than a tour and smiling Michelle Obama to right the wrongs of the previous years. It takes time to rebuild trust and for those who thought it would happen overnight, the world does not work that way.

* Obama likes water-boarding. No, no he doesn’t. He has tried to stop this sort of thing and strangely has met with resistance from the REPUBLICANS.

And call me a wacky leftist who wishes to socialize the whole country and bring down the wealthy who started this giant economic free fall, but did I not just hear a REPUBLICAN pundit recently say we need OSAMA BIN LADEN to attack the U.S. again? Because that would show’em, that’d show ’em real good.

I think that instead of trying to hold onto the old policy of scaring people into compliance, the Republicans should take their whipping like Men. It’s not Obama’s fault Republican senators can’t keep it in their pants. He seems to actually like the woman he married. It’s not Obama’s fault that he’s not browbeating the FED into accepting damaging policies. He seem to genuinely care about  fixing everything Bush broke. And no one could do that in eight months.

It would be nice if the Repulicans who are now whinging would just admit they are the douche bags who brought this around and started to help not hinder every step Obama takes.

Then we might actually see progress.

Oh and Bill Maher: You’re just jealous that the President gets better coverage and more airtime than you do. Libertarian my ass. You’re as whiny as the rest of  them. Do everyone a favor and shut it.
